This morning tour invites PLEA 2026 participants to experience award-winning social impact projects developed through community engagement and collaboration with local governments, guided by the architects involved. The itinerary includes La Cueva de Luz in La Carpio, as well as public space projects realized with the municipalities of Tibás, Alajuelita, and Curridabat, showcasing how architecture can strengthen inclusion, spatial justice, and quality of life through locally grounded design processes.

This guided morning tour offers PLEA 2026 participants the opportunity to experience outstanding examples of bioclimatic architecture in Costa Rica, led by local architects involved in their design and use. Through on-site visits and informal conversations, participants will explore how climate-responsive strategies—such as natural ventilation, daylighting, material selection, and landscape integration—are applied in real projects, grounding PLEA discussions in local knowledge, practice, and lived experience.

This playful walking tour invites PLEA 2026 participants to explore the vibrant art, architecture, museums and cultural layers of San José, discovering how creativity, public space, and everyday urban life intersect through informal encounters, stories, and spontaneous moments in the city.

Join us for a guided tour around the University of Costa Rica campus and discover its unique architectural, cultural, and environmental features. This experience offers participants the opportunity to explore one of the country’s most important academic institutions while learning about its history, public spaces, and sustainable initiatives.

From Earth to Bean is a full-day immersive experience combining Costa Rican coffee culture with earth-based construction. Participants will visit a family-owned highland coffee farm, learn the specialty coffee process from seedbed to cup, enjoy a guided tasting and traditional lunch, and take part in a hands-on dorodango workshop led by Manglar CR and Raíz Arquitectura, exploring raw-earth techniques such as granulometry, compaction, layering, and material transformation.
